Reflective quiz · For adults · Big Five (IPIP)
Free Big Five personality quiz.
Twenty questions, about three minutes. The Big Five is the personality model researchers actually trust, and this version uses the public-domain Mini-IPIP. You get a profile across five traits, not a box or a type. It is a mirror for reflection, not a diagnosis.
Your answers never leave your browser. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
About this quiz
Five spectrums, not a box.
Unlike the popular type quizzes, the Big Five does not sort you into one of sixteen boxes. It places you on five independent traits: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and emotional sensitivity. Everyone sits somewhere on each, and no combination is healthier than another.
Answer for how you generally are, not how you wish you were or how you are on your best day. When you finish, you will see where you land on all five, in plain language.
Built on the Mini-IPIP (Donnellan, Oswald, Baird, and Lucas, 2006), drawn from the International Personality Item Pool, which is in the public domain. Reproduced here for educational self-reflection.
Personality is the what, not the why
Get underneath the patterns.
A trait profile can name how you tend to be. It cannot tell you where those patterns came from, or which ones are costing you. That is the work our doctoral-level psychologists do: understanding the story underneath, so change actually sticks. In Carlsbad, Encinitas, Vista, or online across California. It starts with a free 15-minute consultation.
Questions
About the Big Five.
01 Is the Big Five a personality type like the 16 types?
No. The Big Five does not sort you into a type or a box. It places you on five separate spectrums, so your result is a profile rather than a label. It is the personality model most trusted in psychological research.
02 What does this quiz measure?
Five broad traits: openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and emotional sensitivity, sometimes called neuroticism. Everyone falls somewhere on each. There is no healthiest profile.
03 How accurate is it?
It uses the Mini-IPIP, a brief public-domain measure drawn from the International Personality Item Pool and validated in large samples. A 20-item version is a snapshot, not the last word, but it captures the broad strokes well.
04 Can my personality change?
Traits are fairly stable, but not fixed. They shift gradually across the lifespan, and the way you relate to your own tendencies can change a lot faster, which is often what therapy helps with.
