Free adult anxiety quiz.
Seven questions, about two minutes. This is the GAD-7, the most widely used anxiety screener in the world. It will not diagnose you, but it can put language to what you have been feeling and help you decide what to do next.

About this screener
What the GAD-7 is listening for.
The GAD-7 asks how often, over the past two weeks, you have felt nervous or on edge, been unable to stop worrying, struggled to relax, or felt that something bad was about to happen. Add those together and you get a sense of how much anxiety has been part of your recent life.
Answer for the last two weeks, as honestly as you can. When you finish, you will see your score, what it suggests in plain language, and a next step if you want one.
The GAD-7 was developed by Drs. Robert L. Spitzer, Kurt Kroenke, Janet B.W. Williams, and colleagues, with an educational grant from Pfizer Inc. No permission is required to reproduce, translate, display, or distribute it.
Your results
How to read your GAD-7 score.
The GAD-7 gives a score from 0 to 21, based on the past two weeks. The usual ranges are: 0 to 4 minimal anxiety, 5 to 9 mild, 10 to 14 moderate, and 15 to 21 severe. A score of 10 or higher is the point where clinicians typically take a closer look at generalized anxiety.
It is a screener, not a diagnosis, and it only reflects the last couple of weeks. One unusually hard stretch can push the number up, and a calmer fortnight can pull it down. If the result does not match your lived sense of things, trust yourself over a short quiz.
A common question
Is it anxiety, or something else?
Anxiety rarely travels alone. High worry often comes alongside low mood, and depression and anxiety frequently show up together. Panic attacks, health anxiety, social anxiety, and the intrusive thoughts of OCD can all feel like "anxiety" from the inside, even though they work differently and respond to different kinds of help.
The GAD-7 focuses on generalized worry, so it will not tell these apart. If low mood is also in the picture, our depression quiz looks at that, and if intrusive thoughts and rituals feel familiar, the OCD quiz goes there. The clearest way to sort it out is a conversation with someone who does this for a living.

Questions
About the anxiety quiz.
01 Is this an official anxiety diagnosis?
No. The GAD-7 is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. It measures how often anxiety symptoms have bothered you over the past two weeks. Only a clinical evaluation can tell you whether you have an anxiety disorder.
02 How accurate is the GAD-7?
The GAD-7 is one of the most widely validated anxiety measures in the world and is used across primary care and mental health settings. It is very good at flagging generalized anxiety, though it captures a two-week snapshot rather than the whole picture, and it is not specific to every anxiety condition.
03 What do the score ranges mean?
Scores of 0 to 4 suggest minimal anxiety, 5 to 9 mild, 10 to 14 moderate, and 15 to 21 severe. Higher scores simply mean the symptoms have shown up more often. A score is a starting point for a conversation, not a label.
04 Do I need a high score to start therapy?
No. You do not need a diagnosis or a certain score to benefit from therapy. Plenty of people come in simply because worry has become hard to carry. Wanting things to feel calmer is reason enough.
05 What is a normal GAD-7 score?
A score of 0 to 4 is considered minimal anxiety, and it is where most people without an anxiety problem land. From there, 5 to 9 is mild, 10 to 14 is moderate, and 15 to 21 is severe. There is no single "normal," and the number matters less than how anxiety is actually affecting your life.
06 What GAD-7 score suggests I should talk to someone?
A score of 10 or higher is the common threshold where clinicians look more closely at generalized anxiety, and it is a reasonable point to consider reaching out. That said, you do not need to hit any number. If worry is wearing on you, that is enough reason to talk to someone.
07 Is it anxiety, or something else?
Anxiety often overlaps with depression, and panic, health anxiety, social anxiety, and OCD can all feel like general anxiety while working differently. The GAD-7 measures generalized worry and will not tell these apart. If low mood or intrusive thoughts are also present, a fuller conversation, or our depression and OCD quizzes, can help you sort it out.
