More time. More connection. A fraction of the cost.
Most people start therapy one-on-one. That makes sense — it feels safe, private, and
focused. But there's something individual therapy can't replicate: the experience of being
truly seen by people who aren't paid to care about you.
Group therapy at Coastal Therapy Group gives you 90 minutes per session instead of 45, at
roughly a third of the cost of individual therapy. And research consistently shows it's
just as effective — sometimes more so — for a wide range of concerns including anxiety,
depression, relationship patterns, and self-worth.
This isn't a trade-off. It's a different kind of depth.
The reason it feels scary is the reason it works
Let's be direct about something: most people hesitate about group therapy. The idea of
being vulnerable in front of strangers can feel overwhelming. We hear that all the time,
and we think it's actually important information.
The things that make group therapy feel intimidating — being honest in front of others,
risking judgment, letting people see you as you actually are — those are usually the exact
patterns causing problems in your life outside the room. A group gives you a live
environment to work on them, with psychologists guiding the process and real human beings
reflecting back what they see.
That's not something you can get from a couch and a single therapist, no matter how good they are.
Process groups led by doctoral-level therapists
Our flagship offering is the process group — an ongoing, weekly group where members explore
how they relate to themselves and each other in real time. These aren't classes or
lectures. They're living, breathing spaces where patterns surface and change happens
through connection.
Each group is:
- Limited to 8–10 members so everyone has room to participate
- 90 minutes per week, giving conversations time to go somewhere real
- Between $60-$100 per session — roughly a third of the cost of individual therapy
We also offer topic-specific and population-specific groups throughout the year. Once you
experience what a well-run therapy group can do, the format tends to speak for itself.
Group therapy at our Vista clinic
Our Vista suite at 1800 Thibodo Road features a dedicated group therapy room built
specifically for this work — comfortable seating, natural light, and enough space for the
kind of conversations that need room to breathe.
Located just off the 78 freeway at the Mar Vista exit, it's an easy drive from Vista,
Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Marcos, Encinitas, and the surrounding North County communities.
We're building something here. Our goal is to make Vista a place where therapy groups
aren't a niche option — they're a go-to. If you've been curious about group work, this is
the room and the team to try it with.
