Relationships have a significant impact on our physical and mental health. Invest in yours today.

Our most intimate relationships provide us with the love and support to thrive amidst life’s challenges. But at times they also become the source of our deepest distress and pain.

Maybe you feel isolated and hopeless in your relationship today and struggle to understand how you got there.

What makes relationships work?

At times, making sense of our most intimate relationships can be an impossible task. Thankfully, you don’t have to do it alone.

Today, empirically validated approaches to couples therapy based on attachment science inform us about the functioning of our most intimate relationships. We now know what it takes to remain connected in intimate partnership and our therapists can help you and your partner establish trust, improve communication, and foster connection.

Give us a call and begin the journey of moving from destructive relationship patterns and into secure relationship functioning.

Why couples therapy?

Maybe you are confronting challenges that have caused you significant pain, anger, loss, and difficulty. Or maybe you are struggling with discouragement and unanswered questions, and are losing hope. Whatever you are facing, your life matters. And you don’t have to go through it alone.

We know how hard it can be to reach out and to find a therapist that’s a good fit. The information, resources, and contact options below are intended to help you get to know us, and support you in connecting with services that are right for you. Get connected now by contacting one of our therapists with questions or to schedule a first appointment.

When people feel loved they are freer, more alive, and more powerful than we ever imagined.

What is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)?

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an empirically validated therapeutic approach that guides couples in strengthening their interpersonal emotional awareness, learning from their experiences and deepening their connection.

Today, EFT is the most researched and successful model of relationship therapy. 90% of couples who go through EFT experience significant improvements in their relationship while 75% of couples no longer qualify for the criteria of relationship distress. Extensive research on EFT also demonstrates positive effects on individual mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance abuse, and, of course, relationship satisfaction. Recognized by the American Psychological Association as an evidence based therapy for couples in distress, EFT is an incredibly powerful approach to moving you and your partner from distress into secure relationship functioning.

What approach do you use for couples therapy?

Several couples therapists at Coastal Therapy Group will use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to utilize decades of neurobiological science regarding relationship functioning. But each couples therapist at Coastal Therapy Group will take a different approach to couples therapy. Call us today to learn more about the different approaches available and find a fit that is good for you.

How do I know whether we need couples or individual therapy?

This is a great question and one that is individual to you and your situation. A phone call with our intake coordinator or a free consultation with one of our psychologists is a great way to determine which approach will work best to address your needs.

What if we decide we need individual therapy?

At times one or both partners may find individual therapy useful as well. If you decide individual therapy is also necessary, your couples therapist can provide necessary referrals to you or your partner.

How do we find a therapist who is a good fit for us?

Here at Coastal we have many qualified therapists with different personalities and expertise. Our intake coordinator is a trained professional who will learn about you and your needs and then match you and your partner with a trained psychologist right for you. You will then be scheduled for a free consultation with that psychologist to ensure a good fit before your initial session.

Can our marriage survive infidelity?

Absolutely, yes. A relationship can survive infidelity if both partners are committed to recovery and willing to do the hard work of understanding why the betrayal occurred and how to strengthen the relationship to protect from injury. Couples committed to the work of repairing their relationship discover a new relationship with one another that is more committed, resilient and secure than before the betrayal.
