Grief Therapy Group

Online Adults Grief Group

In the journey of grief, group therapy can be uniquely beneficial.

Connect with others who have similar experiences.

The process of grief can sometimes be a very isolating experience. People who may not understand what you are going through can say things that are unintentionally insensitive or hurtful. Maybe being around other people who are not grieving puts you in awkward situations where it feels like you are bringing the mood down. Group therapy can provide an opportunity to connect with people who can empathize with what you are going through and are coming together with the common intention to talk about their grief.

Connect with others who have different experiences.

Grief always has an element of uniqueness. Even if two people lose the same person, each of them has a different relationship to that person that they are mourning. Acknowledging the differences in each other’s experience of loss allows us to learn from one another and appreciate the distinctiveness of our own story. Hearing other people’s stories helps us to imagine what the healing process for ourselves might look like.

Have people to journey with.

The old adage, “Time heals all wounds” is partially correct. Time is often a necessary ingredient in the healing process, but it is how that time is spent that makes the difference. Group therapy provides a purposeful space to journey together through the ups and downs of the mourning process (read more about Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning here). The pain of loss can be heavy at times and knowing that you have a dedicated space to talk about your grief can help lighten the burden.

Group therapy can be a dynamic way to work through your grief in a way that helps everyone involved experience healing and comfort. Ask for a consultation to see if a grief process group is a good fit for you.

Grief shared is grief halved. Joy shared is joy doubled.
