Male Therapist Encinitas

CARLSBAD & VISTA

Dr. Bethany Ling

Postdoctoral Fellow | she/her

I work with children, adults, and couples in Carlsbad and Vista, helping them express and communicate their needs, learn more about themselves, and build healthy, positive relationships. I approach therapy with curiosity, empathy, and deep respect for each person’s unique story and identities.

   Bethany Ling, PsyD

It’s not always easy to put your feelings into words or open up to the people who matter the most. As humans, we are wired for connection, and how we interact with others is often shaped by how we were raised, our social and cultural contexts, and the relationships we’ve experienced in our lives. It’s hard to feel close with others in your life when you are feeling disconnected from yourself.

Sometimes the different roles you embody, or parts of yourself, can feel scattered or out of sync. When we try to hide the parts of ourselves that we don’t like, feel shame about, or struggle to accept, it becomes more difficult to show up in spaces being authentically you. This can lead to feelings of unworthiness, guilt, anger and other complex emotions that can be hard to express in healthy ways, or that may show up in our relationships in ways we did not intend or expect them to.

Whether you are navigating a challenging relationship, a life transition, or carrying that one thing that you’ve been meaning to process but life seems to get in the way, therapy offers a supportive place to start that journey. If this resonates with you, or you are curious to learn more, I invite you to reach out to schedule a consultation call.

Parents carry a lot. Therapy helps them carry it better.

I have worked with many children and their parents throughout my training within both private practice and community mental health settings. As a parent, you have many responsibilities, which include - but are not limited to - considering the safety of your child, supporting your child’s needs whether academically, physically, socially, or emotionally, as well as attuning to your own needs not only as a parent but as a person. It can be challenging to engage with your partner or child, or find spaces to check in with yourself about how you are doing. The relationships with our primary care givers shapes not only how we interact with our own children, but others around us.

Finding a balance isn’t always straightforward, and it can be difficult to integrate your role as a parent with your personal identity all at once. Our work will involve exploring the relationships with your own parents, the cultural context in which you were raised, and how that has impacted your own parenting styles, your relationship with your child, and even your relationships with others around you. My goal in working with parents is to help them understand themselves more fully - not only supporting them in their parenting journey and relationships with their children, but making space for them to connect with themselves more deeply and wholly.
