This group is a confidential space that can provide you with the unique opportunity to connect with others who may be struggling with some of the same things you are. Maybe you have difficulty advocating for yourself. Or maybe you notice yourself engaging in the same patterns over and over again and want support in finding new ways to form relationships and interact with others. F.A.Q.

What is an interpersonal process group?

An interpersonal process group is a place to practice being yourself and saying what you think and feel with others who support you and are trying to do the same. People share what is actively on their minds, ranging from how they are managing anxiety to talking about strained relationships. The group often becomes a place where people first try something new, such as asserting themselves when they feel dismissed by another group member or taking the risk to share something they have kept to themselves for a long time.

People may join a group for a number of reasons, such as struggles forming or maintaining close relationships, social anxiety, discomfort advocating for themselves, difficulty trusting others, or just a desire for connection. Some people know their reasons before joining, or some discover them during. Whatever your reason, there is a place for you.

Do I have to talk?

No! Although sharing is encouraged, we understand that people have reasons why they need time to build trust before talking in a group and that there may be days when sharing will be more challenging. Although you may benefit more from taking the risk to talk in a group, for some people just showing up is a huge step and can be incredibly helpful.

Do I have to share everything?

No! You will never be pressured to share anything you aren’t ready to share. It’s okay if it takes you longer to feel safe and comfortable being vulnerable in this space.

Is it okay if I’m in individual therapy too?

Yes! It is common for people in group therapy to also have an individual therapist. Group therapy can be an excellent addition to individual therapy as it provides some things that individual therapy cannot, like connection, feedback, and support from peers. However, it is not necessary that group members also be in individual therapy.
