Welcome.

I’m Dr. Taryn Gammon

a psychologist in Carlsbad

she/her

I’m so glad you’re here. Even just considering taking steps on behalf of your own well-being and healing is a tremendous act of care for yourself. And a radical one. Rarely are we encouraged to take time to tend to the parts of us that are hurting. Yet when we ignore or “push through” these pains – as so many of us are taught – we find that they linger, and often grow.

Maybe you’ve been wrestling with your mind, your body, or your emotions for years, and you are wondering if there’s another way. Maybe something has happened, recently or in the past, that is making you question your capacities, your purpose, your identity, your place in the world, or where to go from here. Maybe you are yearning for something deeper in your life, or just looking for a soft and welcoming place to land. Whatever brings you, know that your experiences and your challenges are worth the care and attention they are asking for, and so are you.

As a psychologist, I believe that each human being has an incredible amount of resources, intelligence, and wisdom within them. Through the lens of compassion, we can uncover the unique conditions that have shaped your feelings, behaviors, and nervous system responses. We can explore how to make the changes you wish to see in your life from a place of deep care rather than fear, self-criticism, or reactive anger. Together, we will discover how your internal resources and lived experience can serve as allies in your life, helping you to navigate what you are currently facing, as well as deepening your connection with what matters most to you.

My ultimate hope is to provide a compassionate, inclusive, brave space that welcomes all of who you are into our sessions. I take to heart the privilege of hearing your story and being invited into your life, and would be honored to walk alongside you.

Self-Compassion For The Parts That Hurt

Grief and loss. Death and dying. Aging. Fertility. Body shame. The truth of motherhood. The weight of caregiving. The quiet inner voice calling to a different life, a different way.

These are experiences we tend to avoid talking or even thinking about, and yet they are shared by so many of us. When they remain in the shadows, we often question ourselves: Should I be feeling this way? Is it just me? What’s wrong with me? As if the experience wasn’t hard enough, our pain is sharpened by silence, isolation, and shame.

As a woman, mother, hospice volunteer, and former caregiver for a dying parent, I understand the complexity of beginnings and endings, and the difficulty finding spaces that welcome honest sharing of our experiences.

I would be honored to partner with you as you courageously give voice to your own stories of loss and change. I aim to offer a space of radical welcome, meeting you with curiosity, humility, and humanity. Together, we might discover that what you’ve learned to silence can actually be an opening for compassion and belonging, even laughter and joy.
