Why Join an Autism Parent Support Group?

Being a parent is always challenging, but when your child is on the autism spectrum, those challenges can feel overwhelming. Parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder often face unique obstacles while supporting their child’s emotional, social, and physical needs. These demands can deeply affect parent-child relationships and family dynamics.

Common challenges include:

  • Communication barriers
  • Sensory differences
  • Behavioral challenges
  • Social isolation
  • Educational advocacy
  • Financial stress
  • Parental burnout
  • Sibling relationships
  • Planning for the future
  • Marital conflict

There’s room for you under the umbrella.

A space where parents of children with autism can exhale and be understood.

What will be discussed in this group?

In this group, there are no predetermined topics that are discussed. Instead, the group is shaped by you, your thoughts, needs, and questions. You’ll be able to receive support, feedback, and encouragement from other parents, while also exploring and learning alternative ways to engage with your child and parent a child with autism from other group members.

    Do I have to talk?

No! Although sharing is encouraged, we understand it takes time to build trust, and there may be days where talking feels easier or more challenging. You will never be pressured to share anything that you are not comfortable sharing. Sometimes it can take a while to feel safe talking about hard things with others.

What if I’ve never done group therapy?

That is O.K.! This process group offers a safe and supportive place where you can hear from other parents who understand what you are going through. You will have the opportunity to share your experiences, challenges, joys, and learn from other parents who can relate.

Do I have to be in individual therapy?
